  1. I thought mortar rounds had safety devices to prevent them from detonating unless they have turned downward at the top of the arc. And some form of delay between firing (acceleration) and arming to prevent them from detonating in a nearby tree. But perhaps that´s a post-WWII invention. (arming= when the internal safeties are released, (I´m not quite sure of the technical term))
  2. A Trojan? Is that a local brand of condoms? The Trojan Horse...looks innocent on the outside, but who knows what evil lurks inside...
  3. Most likely, but you can´t win a war without taking some chances. :-D
  4. But you could link ammobelts together and keep firing for as long as you wish. The 200 rnds limit between barrelchanges is to prevent unnecessary wear. So you _could_ fire some 900 rnds without releasing the triggger, but I don´t think it would be a good idea.
  5. I think "weight of Fire" is a more interesting way to calculate firepower. (weight of projectile * rate of fire per time unit) But most models for calculating firepower (army manuals for example) take into account probability to hit, the weapon´s /ammunitions´s probability of malfunction and other stuff. Modern military training involves "putting a lot of lead in the air" during assaults. That´ll make the enemy feel sorry for themselves and not shoot back at you. Of course there is a problem with ammo supply, but there is no real alternative to firing, is there.
  6. But the problem remains: will the supporting unit cease fire when my own troops comes close to the objective? Or will they continue (friendly) firing into the area? I´ll guess I´ll just have to take some risks...after all, war is dangerous business.
  7. I was wondering if it´s possible to give direct fire support (i.e. from tanks) and have them stop firing when my assualting infantry comes close to the objective. I searched the board and realised that "friendly fire" (!!!) is a risk, but to stop firing and assault in the next turn would give the enemy a chance to recover. I encountered a FO, fired with 3 Shermans and sent a rifle plt into the woods from the flank but the tanks killed the FO and started firing in another direction before the infantry came close so I never got to know what would have happened. Maybe that´s somehing I should be happy about.
  8. I downloaded the demo about two weeks ago and last week I bought a 3D-card. Haven´t done much else since then.. I runs much faster/smoother and its much easier to see the terrain features and decide if you can move hidden from the enemy´s wiev.
