  1. Jason why don't you post your scenario on to the Ptoving grounds for the community to playtest. I'll take a crack at it myself and if you like I'll playtest it with you. It'll give you a better insight on the way it plays if you have an oponent. Your training scenario's were excellent.
  2. Szedrencs, Many thanks for making these Hungarian scenarios and for providing a Mac zip pack as well. You should post them at the Scenario Depot II too as quite a few people go there for scenarios. You all did a very impressive job!
  3. During the set-up of a scenario or op of units, reinforcements could be set up if there were reinforcement maps in addition to the set-up map we have now. That way units can be loaded as desired so when it appears it will be organized as the designer wants and not randomly by the AI. Reinforcements can be delayed or prevented by set rules if the area is under enemy LOS of an FO, heavy weapons, tanks or even small arms. The designer can then just select what kind of fire will allow or prevent the rieinforcements to show up. That is if it's possible to do so without strainng the engine?
  4. What would also be a nce touch is to be able to have the reinforcements if they are coming in vehicles loaded up in a pre-designated order. That way if it's a mixed force of infantry and support units and too few vehicles to carry all of them you won't have your force scattered in the random way they appear on the scene now.
  5. Yo Dey No Goulash for Ivan is a great scenario (Looking at the map at the end of the battle I discovered I had won my Major victory battle without using reinforcements 1 and 7. That was quite a surprise as during the fight as I was running out of AT shells for my tanks I was wishing for reinforcements that I had just forgotten as I was so caught up in planning each move. It's a real thinking man's scenario) and I've just finished your Romanian Scernario, which is also very good. the new scenario depot is a very good assett for the CM community as are your talents as a mod maker, scenario designer and forum member. It would be a pity not to have them up there on the new site as a lot of new members will be looking for good scenario's to play. Anyway's whatever your reasons I enjoyed your scenarios.
  6. I was scanning through my list of cmbb scenario's and am currently playing your scenario of Hungarian troops and light tanks vs a similar Russian force. Sorry can't remember the title right off. I was very impressed with this scenario of yours. I'm not quite finished with it yet but I'm finding this to be quite enjoyable. It's a tough fight for the Hungarian player (me) vs the AI. Anyways it got me to look for other scenario's you might have designed and I discovered you're not listed at the new depot. If you haven't already done it you should post your scenario's there as well. All best Patrick
  7. Re. The film of British troops hitting Iraqui's let's also remember that the film was provided not by a BBC film crew but a member of the unit that participated in the beatings. Which wasn't nearly as bad as what "Rodney King" got dished out by the LAPD. As for Tagwyn what a lot of rubbish you are spouting! The withdrawal from Cambodia was solely a US gov't dicision and had nothing to do with the media forcing the gov't to do so. Read your history and understand that by that time the US didn't want to get embroiled into yet another civil conflict (Cambodia). Your statements are nonsense.
  8. Anyone remember the security guard who won the Darwin Award for parking himself in front of a communications microwave attenna a few winters back with a six pack and a tv set to while away the night? I believe he was found well done but not very crispy.
  9. Hi thanks Wicky guess I should learn how to read. That addresses some of the issues and Peterk confirms my other concern. The AI defense could be coded to stay in place and defend flags until opponent losses are at a certain percentage before it initiates a counterattack. that would really mix it up for single play.
  10. Nope that isn't what I was suggesting. That explains the conceptof the unit Order of battle and how they are to be integrated in the game. what I am suggesting is for the AI to be given specific strategic/tactical orders bt the designer so that the AI will be "smarter" in play. With the possibility of subset orders for it to choose the best course of action if the human player is past point A on the map. that way say a AI reinforcement when it arrives will actually have a couple of choices, 1. attack if the human player has not reached point A or defend if the player has reached or passed point b. This way the AI doesn't blindly advance and getting itself massacred.
  11. When it comes to designing scenario's especially if it is to be played against the AI would it be possible to give the AI whether for the attack or defense mission orders. Such that if it is a static defense the defending AI will hold it's position instead of making kamikaze runs? Or if there are reinforcements within the scenario that these units have a set of preset orders in which to follow. AS well there could be a subset of orders for it to follow in the case the attacker has succeeded or failed certain objectives? Would this be difficult to do or out of the question?
  12. Maybe a new thread on kimchee is what we need discuss the possibility of whether China will invade Taiwan and how this come be made into a game module. Unless that too gets sidetracked into mind control or something more obscure?
  13. Hot kim-chee? It's not served hot but at room temperture. It is always spicy hot though. Aside from that considering the South and the US Forces have a sophisticated network of electronics to detect and return counter battery fire acurately and within minutes or down to seconds it is quite possible that the North would have their own artillery systematically taken apart. A first strike by the north would have to take out both air forces and the artillery within the first hour to give them an edge for any kind of advance. That's not a sure thing but supposing your estimates are right and the ROK troops are no better than conscripts that still leaves the US troops on the trip wire. How fast would the US troops (2nd Armor?) fold? Would it be a return to the 1st Korean invasion?
  14. Missed a couple of days here and things seem to have kooled down bit. Re. Kool-aid drinkers the term was coined when the followers of an American religious cult based in Guiana drank kool-aid laced with cyanide. I forget how many died but it was around 100 including entire familes with their children. If China should ever invade Taiwan the US is comitted by treaty to defend Taiwan and I believe it will include incremental buildups of defensive force. First is the use of air and sea power to repulse an invasion. Second if that fails and Taiwan is invaded with ground troops then a MEF wuld be sent in with the army to follow. If war broke out Japan I think would sit on the sidelines as actively neutral inthat they wouldn't get into the fight but would be a conduit of supplies and materials for the US into Taiwan. S Korea would be dragged in only if the north invaded in turn. Sixkiller you make some valid points there but I think an invasion might changed the current social values of the "peaceniks" in the south to put some steel into their backbone. Still it's all hypothetical and an interesting one at that.
  15. When it comes to China and religion let's get it straight... there is none. China is still a communist country and doesn't officailly recognize any religion. The Catholic bishop of China if you didn't already know is appointed by the Communist party there. The PRC is a political/economic entity with its own agenda often at odds with the US, BUT they are not the ENEMY aiming to undermine and destroy Taiwan or the US. The PRC's position is to use diplomatic/economic and social/cultural ties to eventually get Taiwan to assimilate back to the mainland, but they also use their armed might as the stick over Taiwan's head to keep it in line and not delve into the slightest possibility of ever seeking independence. Let's not discuss jihadist's in this thread as it doesn't have anything to do with this particular topic. Ranting as such doesn't prove anything except the making of foolish statements.
  16. Anyways at least fromthe tests done onthe new intel Macs video frame rates are as good as a pc and i think twice as fast as a G5 dual core.
  17. Well let's see for consumer goods its usually not the major MNC that's actually setting up the factory. For example Nike, Walmart or any clothes brand actually own their own manufacturing capability. That portion is usally farmed out to independent manufactuers who set up the actual brick and mortar to produce for the MNC's. The Taiwanese have for the last 5 years have been setting up small scale factories to manufacture garments in South Asia and Africa and even in the Mideast (Bahrain and Abu Dhabi). Revamping industry would just be a matter of financing to expand facilities. Most of the semiconductor companies already are spread out in Malaysia, Philippines, Korea and India and some factories are even stated to be built in the Gulkf states as well. Yes SE Asia / China is quite popular for investing now, but the question posed was what if war broke out between China and Taiwan. Then the whole busienss equation is out the window and new strategies be formed to fill the gap that will ensue .
  18. As far as a blockade on China would go it wouldn't be more than 2 to 3 months (maybe even less) for Walmart to source tis goods through India or even in the developing economies of Africa for consumer goods. The liklihood of India or Pakistan coming in on the Chinese side is very dim as economically they are in competition with China and this hypothetical war would be more to their benefit to stay with the US. Both India and Pakistan are also in dispute with China over their Himalayan borders. China also defeated India in a war so the Indian military has never really looked upon China with much favor since then. I doubt very much that the US would want to try to invade China as that would be more than it could chew. The US would have to go in for Total war to win and defeat China totally. Can anyone imagine US troops storming the Forbidden City and then trying to foist a new democracy in China? We did a lousy job winning the peace in Iraq and I doubt the Pentagon has any kind of endgame plan to re-develop any country's social political structure. As for identifying subs I would think the US already has acoustic id's on every sub in service today (on both allies and adversaries) so identifying a Russian sub from a Chinese one would be simple. china doesn'thave thatmuch influence on Indonesia. The Indonesians would have to weigh in the influence of the US and the West for that matter. Aside from that china also lays claim on the offshore oil rigs Natuna(?) which is in Indonesian territorial waters just like it claims the Spratleys and the Mischief Shoals off the Philippines. Nike has plants in Indonesia so the US may have a dip in shoe production losses from China but the Indonesian factories would ramp up their production just as quickly. A war in China would see some economic disruption but look at the global economy today and you can see how fluid it is. Busiensses would justshift to non conflict areas in the 3rd world and those countries would happily accomodate the new business. As for Korea and Japan if China sent missles to hit US bases wouldn't that turn world opinion against them? Not that they would care one whit but that is also a factor to consider. Japan and Korea would be forced into a regional war onthe US side. Russia would be the big winner here as it could sit on the sidelines and supply China with warmaterial and oil which the US wouldn't dare touch. all best Patrick
  19. When it comes to design scenario's forShock Force will it be possible to provide increased variety in setup play? As it is with any cm scenario or operation you have the original set up as placed by the desiigner and the option of letting the AI placed the units. Would it be possible to increase the options of set ups for scenarios by adding the selection of say set up A, B, C, Ai placed setup and lastly a random selection of the above 4 setups. This way a designer if he feels up to making 3 versions of a defensive set up (units on both sides don't change just where they are positioned within their pespective zones) could so. This would increase each scenario's possible re-playability. So how difficult would this be to achieve?
  20. IMHO the press has been pretty fair about the coverage in Iraq from the start. The story that WMD's might be a bogus reason for going into Iraq was brought up before the troops went in. the point that it was overshadowed by the administrations declaration that had confirmation of WMD's made it a mooot point as to whether there would be any discussion until after the war is begun and won. The press does it's job well bringing up stories that may not be popular with the frontline troops fighting the war but stories that need to be told anyway. Now with online blogs so popular don't forget we get a lot of information straight from the grunts on the ground with their own personal blogs. If I rember right the story about the lack of armor for trucks and humvee's was brought outfirst in a blog? Stories of troop morale can also be guage by what's out there on the blogs and mostt of that is quite positive. Would someone explain to me how the press hasn't been telling the right story?
  21. The alternative to this radar is the tried and true Syrian technique pioneer by the 1st Pres. Assad. Just blow the building up! Why bother searching.
  22. I think Big Duke put out some provocative thoughts but to include a strategic overlay on how a tactical victory should be gauged isn't stretching it a bit too much. Especially since the strategic conditions aren't even relevant for the time frame involved which is the actual time fought on the ground in any tactical battle.
  23. How does calling in airstrikes and firing off a couple of TOW's constitute a defeat? This being a tactical game I thought the description of victory for a scenario had already been clarified a while ago in pass discussions. That we weren't going to confuse the issue with strategic overlays because for a battle set in the future it would be too ephemeral anyways. I would think if I were an Iraqi watching Al-Jazeera re-tell this tale as a insurgent victory I wold be shaking my head as it would be a spin no matter how you spin it. Zero US dead, no captured POW's or equipment to show off etc. The fact that the town was still in insurgent hands would be about the only positive thing but it would ring hollow as a victory bell toll. As for the 17 insurgents wounded I would assume that they were captured wounded? That hasn't been clarified. I think it's still a bitearly to crow about this current Iraqi campaign as a strategic loss to the US? If the new Iraqi government is able to stand on its own 2 feet and police their own country wouldn't that make it a US victory? It's not that way ..yet but it certainly doesn't look like the S. Vietnamese government back in 1974. If we look at Afghanistan today all in all it looks more positive than when the Russians occupied it back in the 80's. It's being done with less foreign troops and the local population seems to be more pro government than anti.
  24. Thanks will check itout and start uploading. All best Patrick
  25. BTW on the products page of games in development why isn't CMSF on the list as well?
