  1. Ha ha Mark IV, FW 190 strike indeed ... everyone knows by now that it's a V1 strike. Joe ------------------ "Son," says I to him, "you're a Dragon. And a Dragon ACTS like a Dragon or he doesn't act at all." Smrgol, Dragon
  2. Ethan, do what I do ... I find that if I mold a Spartan helmet from three layers of heavy duty Reynolds Aluminum Foil it cuts the pain down AND keeps that annoying, whiny little voice from complaining that I don't take it out often enough ... or is that my wife? And if you think it was muddy at Thermopylae you must have forgotten that morning at Waterloo. You looked funny as hell when you slipped under Neys horse just as it took a dump. Joe ------------------ "Son," says I to him, "you're a Dragon. And a Dragon ACTS like a Dragon or he doesn't act at all." Smrgol, Dragon
  3. {sob} Sorry Matt, I {sniff} realize now that I should have used IE instead of Netscape, I ... I feel so ... dirty {snork} (a snork has a large nasal component, you really don't want to know). Thanks Joe ------------------ "Son," says I to him, "you're a Dragon. And a Dragon ACTS like a Dragon or he doesn't act at all." Smrgol, Dragon
  4. Thanks Matt, knowing that you can beat Fionn gives us all hope that miracles can still occur That link, BTW, works but the Indirect link doesn't. I'm running Netscape, could that be the problem? ------------------ "Son," says I to him, "you're a Dragon. And a Dragon ACTS like a Dragon or he doesn't act at all." Smrgol, Dragon
  5. Well, I for one would welcome a section that deals with scenario specific issues where people could post "spoiler" information if they wished to do so. And there isn't, obviously, any way that anyone can police the posts to be sure that spoiler information isn't listed. OTOH, I LIKE to read the posts and have picked up valuable information from reading them. So I guess that the solution is to do the best we can If it turns out that a particular scenario gets spoiled and I can't play it blind, so be it. But if there is way to create a Scenario section to minimize the problem I'd be all for it. Finally, I hope that those of us who like surprises aren't being too obnoxious about Spoiler requests, we just don't want to miss out on any of the ... fun ????? So thanks to those of you who are honoring our requests, we really do appreciate it. Joe ------------------ "Son," says I to him, "you're a Dragon. And a Dragon ACTS like a Dragon or he doesn't act at all." Smrgol, Dragon
  6. Thanks Fionn, and I couldn't help but notice that he has dirt under his toenails. Has this thread gone far enough off topic yet? Joe ------------------ "Son," says I to him, "you're a Dragon. And a Dragon ACTS like a Dragon or he doesn't act at all." Smrgol, Dragon
  7. Hmmm, interesting thought, but I guess Matt or Fionn would know best whether it's possible. On a related issue, however, I would suggest that many of the topics discussed could just as easily be discussed without bringing the scenario itself into play. For example, if a question comes up about how tanks use the ambush command, it can probably be discussed without mentioning the scenario at all. The issue usually doesn't have to do with the specific scenario so much as the general question of how the ambush works. Now obviously, with only the two gold scenarios it might get a little obvious, but for future reference a general question will probably suffice. I know that I want to know the answers to some of these questions but I also want to be able to play some scenarios blind. Joe ------------------ "Son," says I to him, "you're a Dragon. And a Dragon ACTS like a Dragon or he doesn't act at all." Smrgol, Dragon
  8. Your honor, I rest my case. Take the bastard out and shoot him at dawn ... and then again at sunset. And it's a Theban PIG, you Spartan ... uh ... {quick, what's a bad name for a Spartan?} Joe ------------------ "Son," says I to him, "you're a Dragon. And a Dragon ACTS like a Dragon or he doesn't act at all." Smrgol, Dragon
  9. I've seen other games that included a random map generator, Age of Rifles had it, but they never really worked very well. From the sounds of it, this one might be just the thing. I really like playing blind scenarios and this should do the job nicely. Joe ------------------ "Son," says I to him, "you're a Dragon. And a Dragon ACTS like a Dragon or he doesn't act at all." 10. And for those who haven't read the paper yet today (or surfed the news sites I suppose), they're upgrading some of the awards given to the Neisi units in WW2 to the MOH. Among the new awardees is Sen. Daniel Inoye of Hawaii. Well deserved. Joe ------------------ "Son," says I to him, "you're a Dragon. And a Dragon ACTS like a Dragon or he doesn't act at all." Smrgol, Dragon
  11. I've said it before, I'll say it again You're not really a grognard 'till someone else calls you a grognard. It's not a title that is self awarded (inflicted?) but rather one that is earned by constantly harping on minor issues (... the dust under the toenails is the wrong color for Thermopalae) or unimportant issues (... you spelled Thermopalae wrong) You'll know you're on your way, however, when you watch a rerun of that old movie "Battle of the Bulge" and turn it off in disgust when the "King Tiger" tanks come rumbling through the forest. Joe
  12. Hawk, the movie was Bridge at Remagen IIRC, and I think the tanks were Chafees, but it was a seriously cool intro to the movie wasn't it. Joe ------------------ "Son," says I to him, "you're a Dragon. And a Dragon ACTS like a Dragon or he doesn't act at all." Smrgol, Dragon
  13. I am TOO being productive {58 minutes to quitting time}. In fact I have my latest project up on my taskbar as I'm typing this {57 minutes} and I frankly resent the implication that I'm not mature enough to focus on my work and not on some silly little game {56 minutes}despite the fact that I ran home at lunch to start the download {55 minutes}and I have totally blocked the fact that Arien has already sent me his first turn of "The Valley...". So let's show some professionalism here, all right? (54 minutes and counting ... hope my ISP didn't dump me ...} Joe
  14. Fionn, while I can draw a straight line (well, on a computer drawing program anyway) I think I might be of more use as a writer and I hereby volunteer for that role Joe
  15. I think ... I'll have another beer. ------------------ "Son," says I to him, "you're a Dragon. And a Dragon ACTS like a Dragon or he doesn't act at all." Smrgol, Dragon
  16. Hey pal, cheaters never win Seriously, interesting idea, it would have never occurred to me. Now you've got me curious. Joe ------------------ "Son," says I to him, "you're a Dragon. And a Dragon ACTS like a Dragon or he doesn't act at all." Smrgol, Dragon
  17. Wow! I don't recall seeing any biographies or reading any accounts that gave Monty much credit as a Combat Commander. He did, without doubt, give the British soldier a feeling of confidence by beating Rommel, but most would agree that he was plauged by a terminal case of the slows. Despite that he did come up with one of the most audacious plans of the war, Market Garden, and then managed to screw that up by (among other reasons such as bad intellegence)reverting to form and being too damn slow. Mind you, perspective is a wonderful thing, I had a distant cousin frostily inform me that the American Civil War should really be called the "War of Northern Aggression" , so one's perspective will color a lot of things. Joe ------------------ "Son," says I to him, "you're a Dragon. And a Dragon ACTS like a Dragon or he doesn't act at all." Smrgol, Dragon
  18. Someone has been reading "The Onion" IMHO. Check out the exploits of Herbert Kornfeld, Accounts Receivable Supervisor at Midstate Office Supply in The Onion (www.theonion.com). It's listed in the archives several times and is a brilliant satire. The language used by "Leshawn" matches to the actual spelling. Could I be wrong? Of course. Leshawn could be the real deal. But I doubt it. The Germans discriminated against the Jews (if the Holocast can be referred to merely as "discrimination") and lost the services of thousands of loyal and brave soldiers. The Americans discriminated against (among others) the African Americans and lost their most valuable service as well. But never forget, it didn't really matter in what role someone served in WWII, the fact that they served deserves our utmost respect and honor. Joe
  19. Lindan: I know, pisses you off don't it "Oh well, I had a Piat (which WE don't have) fired by Brits and Polish troops (which WE don't have)at a Jagtiger (which WE ...)." Mind you I don't actually want them to stop saying those things ... exactly ... I mean it's nice to know ... kinda ... but still ... I mean damnit it's worse than Amanda Jensen in High School and she was the biggest tease in the valley! Joe
  20. Zulu: I agree with many of your choices, espcially Railroad Tycoon, Seven Cities and Rainbow 6, all of which gave me many months of enjoyment. However the ONE game that has really met the test of time for me is another F1 game, Grand Prix Legends. While it has a rather steep learning curve (I'm still learning it after more than a year), it is a truly ground breaking simulation. Joe
  21. Coffee: We tried that and the same thing happened. I'll see if the ICQ file attachment works, I'm using a PC, not sure what he's using. Too bad, but I'm sure that BTS will get it fixed, that's what Beta is for after all. We tried everything else that has been suggested and no luck. Joe
  22. <sniff> <sniff> Anybody get that whiff of ... Troll...? FWIW, I commend both BTS and Fionn and Matt for their work, both on the game and on this site. Ever since I got the game this site has been one of the places I go regularly. I also commend BTS for their decision to release the game when it's right, as well as their decision to support the final users (and yes, my pre order is already in <g>) by keeping us informed. I,like the others playing this great game ... opps, sorry, this great BETA Demo would dearly love to play the Arnhem bridge scenario (do those screenshots look great or what?) but I am willing to let BTS be the judge of when it's ready. Thanks to all involved, keep up the great work. Joe
  23. Well, FWIW, my PBEM opponent and I are having the same problem. Or perhaps I should say that I'm having the problem. It's now T14 in Chance Encounter and I'm the Germans. He sent me the movie file, zipped, and I unzipped it into a PBEM directory I had created. I select the file from the directory, the screen goes blank (as it usually does) and I hear the now infamous "ding" just before the Axis password screen shows. Then it "dings" everytime I try to enter something. I'm using netscape and so the Outlook option won't work but I'll try "saving" rather then just opening and see what happens. Thanks for posting, at least I know it's not my machine. Joe
  24. You guys are spoiling us. The new Target Key (forget what you call it) will be great, I was hoping you would have something like that but didn't want to ask. Thanks again. Joe
