  1. I disagree. I don't want my units to default in the hold position. If I am busy doing something I want them doing what the AI thinks they should do.
  2. maniac_mat, the written word is a one dimensional form of communication and I am no Hemingway or King. I meant no offense by my post and I sorry you took it that. I was only trying to be helpful and I am sorry if I offended in doing so.
  3. KiloAlpha4, you are, of course, correct. I was not speaking of specific situations but the game in general. If you are outnumber 6:1 you are toast. WHat I meant was sometimes, especially when you are new to the game, And you see 15 enemy units appear at once because you finally make contact, don't panic. Those 15 units represent a squad and half not a company. If it is first contact you probably have enough to fight them so relax and fight them. A person new to the games first reaction is "OH MY GOD!!!!I"M BEING OVER RUN" when in fact they may not be. [ April 21, 2007, 03:01 PM: Message edited by: Elvis ]
  4. maniac_mat, I tested for GI COmbat and I can tell you that after playing ToW a bit it is light years beyonf GIC. Not even close. When taking golf lesson and good instructor will give you only one or two things to think about rather than trying to completely change your swing in one lesson. Here is my ToW version of two "swing" thoughts that led to my relaxation. 1) Each of your units represents one person not one squad as in CMxx. 2) The massive amount of enemy units thatappear on the screen when contact is made probably only amount to a sqaud or two and can be fought off with proper tactics NOT panicy full frontal assault tactics. (That one was for free folks)
  5. franz, I know exactly how you are feeling. When I first began playing it I felt tense and slightly overwhelmed. I began to pause constantly to get a handle on things. Somewhere along the way that changed for me. I sort of relaxed and got into a flow while playing. I knew the areas of the battlefield that demanded my closest atttention and which needed moderate to light attention. I seldom use pause anymore. I am not a fast clicker kinda guy. I stink at MP CoD because my 46 year old reactions are so slow. But what I found once I relaxed and got into the flow is that using CM style tactics won battles for me. I initialy felt like I needed to advance to and engage the enemy. Now I provide my self with covering fire, move units to flank positions and all the other tried and true tactics.
  6. Have you read the "read me" file? If so and you feel ready I will give it a play with you.
  7. maniac_mat, look in the bottom left of your screen shot under the number 30. There is a message. If I am not mistaken what you are seeing could very well be a spot by sound.
  8. OK...I posted to a different thread the mechanics of MP but this thread seems to be more about the experience. So I will give you the good and some less than good thoughts. The not so good first. You MUST make sure you read the read me file because chances are if you have arouter you will never be able toplay it until you have read the instructions. EVERYONE with a router who has followed the instructions has been able to play MP (or at least everyone I have communicated with). Next, when a MP game is launched is does a fairly long time for the game itself to start. Probably in the area of 4-5 minutes. So youif you gonna have a beer and sandwich while playing launch the game and then goget your supplies. It isn't a bad thing to me al all but from a coupld of the above posts maybe it is for some people but you can neither buy units of place them in an initial set up. Once you play MP you'll understand more whyit doesn't really matter much. And there is no in game chat. The good. Unbelieveable blast to play. I don't know why but MP makes my heart pound faster than single player with this game. When you first sight an enemy unit the adreneline kicks in hard. If you are playing against more thanone person and your units are eliminated FOW is turned off and you can watch the rest of the players finish the battle from wherever you want on the map. That is more fun than it may sound. When a battle is over you first impulse is to want to go right back in. For myself and the people I have played preformace has been great. Smooth as single palyer. Sometimes the first 2 or 3 seconds of a battle there is slight lag and then it is gone. crazy, there isn't much point in posting a video because the look of the game is the same as single player. Aside from the initial chat screen nothing looks very different.
  9. Two other VERY important things I almost forgot. 1) READ THE MULTIPLAYER READ ME FILE BEFORE EVEN THINKING OF PLAYING MULTIPLAYER. There are very important things in there especially if you use a router. 2)When you are joining a game there is a ":" followed by numbers (the port number). I always used the default port when I hosted. When you enter the IP number you enter it before the ":" and leave the port numbers.
  10. Find someone to play with. One person is "Host". Get their IP number. Go to "Multiplayer" click "Internet". Then select "Create Game" or "Join". If you create you'll be asked how many people you will allow into the game. If you are joining add the IP number in the box that opens. Once you are connected you will be in a chat room. There you can discuss which MPbattle to play, choose side if you want to fight as teams, name call each other, etc...You then use a drop down menu to select nationality, icon color and team (if you decide to play teams). Then click "Ready". The Host selects the battle and once everyone has clicked Ready the host launchs the game. Couple of things to be aware of...If the host allows 8 players in and only 4 come in he is only about to choose from the 8 player battles. Conversely if you allow 2 players into the caht area all battle sizes are available but only the host and one othe rpersonare allowed into the chat area.
  11. There are 7 stand alnoe battles. There are many many many more in the campaigns. To access them you must play them. What I mean by that is if you play the German camapaign and finish it (win or lose) you are then always able to go play that one again. The Ally campaign (that was my focus) I think has 7 or 8. If I remember correctly the Polish campaign may have only had 5. But don't worry there are plenty of battles on the disc. Plus I'm sure it won't be too much longer before people start making their own
  12. I routinely fire rifles long distances. If I have 2 or more guys with rifles and clear LOS I have them all shoot at the same guy. After he is gone I go onto the next. In both ToW and CM I do much better with infantry than armor.
  13. Elliot, I LOVE that approach. So you didn't engage the enemy armor with yours until they were on the bridge? Brilliant. Gonna load it uptotry that myself. I usually get the same units you had and try to getthem hulldown on the hills to the right. Mixed success. L, E
  14. Damn you Moon. It took me over an hour while getting the kids off to school to provide answers and then you one up me with more deatailed answers. If I had done detailed I'd still be writing. Make me look bad.

  16. Dear dez1, You're awake again I see. No one says there are sitting around counting money...then you missed this post by franz: "franz Member Member # 6702 posted April 18, 2007 04:23 PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- yes, it must be hell watching your credit card balance rise by thousands of dollars each hour. I really pity the poor souls." And when you should be doing the "wake and bake" move you instead did the "wake and complain" move instead of reading the top sticky thread that Matt started last night. Love, Elvis
  17. Sniper Sniper Sniper, I wasn't clear again. I meant one $45 payment one month before the polls. Love, Elvis
  18. Dear Snipemiester, I spite of high taxes I would wager if people were asked to write a seperate check for $45 a month before voting time for the right to vote turnout would be higher. However, I have zero first hand information but what if they don't know yet? What if they have been working on something that they believe they could finish very quickly but don't want to post that until the know for sure? These guys have always been straight shooters and I suspect that when they have actual solid answers they will post them. I have been around here for a very very long time and treating their clients poorly is not their M.O. Better to hold off with actual information then throw guesses to the crowd at this point. Especially with pending litigation from dez1 (hee hee) With love, Elvis
  19. Dear guttersnipe, I understand and agree with what you say but you have misunderstood what I said and what I was responding to. What I was saying was the way some people have been complaining. I said "It is one thing to be unhappy and point out your disappointment it is a completely other thing to imply things like they haven't been working on it or caring because they are just sitting back counting the thousands rolling in or "point of law" "binding contract" silliness" So I said I agree with you that it is perfectly reasonable to voice your disappointment but doing it in rude and, lets face it, stupid ways doesn't accomplish anything and work on the communities nerves after a while. And it is an open forum and good open forums police themselves to keep things from getting out of hand. So as much as they might have theright to make outrageous claims I have a right to ask them to stop. And what I was responding to was franz saying "If problems are explained promptly and concisely then 90% people will understand and not complain." I think if you stop and think about the probable numbers more than 90% are already not complaining and seem to be understanding. I used 1000 as an example. What would you guess the preorder sales were? I have no idea but I would be stunned if it were under 1000. And I understand what you mean about voters but that isn't a good example because voters didn't give the polls $45 for the right to vote and then not show up. Love, Elvis
  20. No. Or at least I ampretty sure no. I never had a problem with the color though. I am sure some modder type person will have some sort of way to change it.
  21. Hpt. Lisse, I multiplayer each player gets to choose their icon color. Love, Elvis
  22. I'm not much of a scenario maker but from what I have seen the editor is VERY powerful.
