Heuman lock bridge >> tactics ???
gunnersman replied to LRC's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
This is a tough map. I barely got the bridge and had very little man power left to take the remaining objectives. It does not seem there is enough of anything to take all of the objectives: Not enough time, not enough men and not enough firepower. I felt a bit rushed. I think maybe I could have done better with more time. But those MGs are brutal. I don't think I could have gotten as far as I did with anything other than Airborne (or Paras!). -
Amazing 20mm Flak - Arrgghhh!
gunnersman replied to phil stanbridge's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Yes, the FlaKvierling are quite resilient...at least the two I've come up against in the Road to Nijmegen are. There is one up against some hedges that I've spent many a combination, of 75mm direct fire, 81mm mortar, plenty of 25pdr and .303 before having killed all of the crew....damn Fallschirmjaeger. :-( -

Unless a specific antitank weapon was used in their inventory, this seems like an over abstraction to me. I was always under the impression there is in a minimal amount of abstraction in the CMx2 series. -
No problems here...as of yet. In fact I am in the middle of the Nijmegen campaign and upgraded in the middle of a save game without thinking of the possible consequences. And played another mission after that. Im running an Intel rig. So far so good.

And on a Saturday! Quick! Someone check Battlefronts collective temperature!

So Im just now noticing that Day 3 is missing in the list of missions displayed for the campaign. The list jumps from Day 2 to Day 4. (And I thought the mission was a total of 5 days?) There are only 3 days numbered: Day 1, Day 2 and Day 4. Is there, or could someone in the know put a complete list of missions if at all possible? Muchos grassyass.

Air Support Not So Supportive.
gunnersman replied to Nick Carter's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
On another note. Has anyone noticed the effects of strafing on targets that are under tree cover? I assume... and it appears... that trees seem to bring bullets to a complete and sudden stop and none get through to the target below. I've never noticed this until Market Garden as I have never had much air support in any scenarios. -

"Point attack" is the way to go when targets are under cover of trees. Otherwise, if you use "area target" the flyboys love to attack YOU, I have found out the hard way. But then again, I tend to get too close. -
How I Miss the Bocage...
gunnersman replied to Hugh Jarse's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
I was a expecting to see the first post say "...said no one ever". Man I hate bocage. There are just too many slow firing weapons made for long range for bocage and urban fighting. And there is never enough artillery. -
Its running smooth on my new Windows 8 rig. I have not had any problems yet (knock on wood)

If you mean what I think you mean by the term "jaggies", I turned on "shaders" in the hot keys selection and all the jagged shadows on vehicles and helmets went away. My computer also has noticeably slowed down a bit. But if you want a good screen shot, then turning on shaders is the way to go.

I've been running a few tests out of curiosity to see what the effects are when rocket based weapons are fired from within buildings. One of the buildings I am testing in is a bunker. The Germans (Veterans) will not fire their shrecks and the US Army (Veterans) will not fire their bazookas from bunkers. I've tried from shelters and MMG bunkers with no luck. My tests are from three different building types: Smallest modular building, the largest modular building (both single story) and bunkers (Shelter and MMG as stated before). The target is an immobilized Sherman for the Germans to shoot at and an immobilized Stug for the US to shoot at, both rear facing to make it more enticing . I've only done a couple of tests in the different bunkers. In each test there is no attempt to shoot the shreck or bazooka. They will shoot rifles and MMGs but no rockets. There is no hesitation to fire from buildings. But bunkers are a no go. Is this by design?

First Mission-The road to Nijmegen error
gunnersman replied to Bartokomus's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
The way I see it something happened that the mortar teams could not be available (coincidentally each ammo bearer from each mortar team tripped and fell blowing everybody up as they were trying to move ammo for their respective team) Use your imagination. -
When is MG released?
gunnersman replied to westyorksgaz's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
I got this one guys. They never give a specific date. Its ready when its ready. Battlefront has always been that way with the Combat Mission series. But if you will notice on the pre-order announcements it says "4-6 weeks." And Battlefront is pretty good about hitting that range, if not, they go over. But the game is pretty stable, from what I understand and they usually never go over their "4-6 weeks". -

Sherman Tank, That Bad?
gunnersman replied to weapon2010's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Have you played CMFI? With the exception of the Tiger, the Sherman pretty much has the run of the battlefield. The Sherman more than holds its own against the Panzer Mark III's and IV's. Alot of these stories about Shermans being inferior seem to come from the time frame when the Allies invade Normandy. You never here anything about North Africa or Sicily. It's just the ebb and flow of the evolutionary arms cycle. And thanks to the Russian front, the German's had plenty of experience on their side. Thanks to the higher fidelity at which CMBN and CMFI model the different systems in the armored fighting vehicles (sights, weapons controls, engine, radio, etc) you start to see the degrading effects that non-penetrating shots has on armor too. That was something that was never modeled in the CMBO, CMAK and CMBB.
