  1. Hi, in the perfect world I would like to see an OPFOR game after the Eastern Front version. However I am so grateful for CM as it is that I will not miss a OPFOR game. All the best, Kip. ------------------
  2. Hi, for me TCP/IP matters. I want to play head-to-head as fast as possible. Yes some turns will take time but others will be done in a minute or two. The great thing about CM, or rather one of many great things, is the quality of the AI. This means that a game V the computer is still good fun but live play against a human must still be tops, for me anyway. All the best, Kip. PS I also hope to finish games in one sitting, it may take a few hours but I believe it will be possible. ------------------
  3. Hi, here in the UK I had been hoping for Friday or Monday but will now have to think more along the lines of next Wednesday. These things happen. All the best, Kip. ------------------
  4. Hi, I agree that CM will be huge. It will be the only computer game I have played twice, I have already played the Demo scenarios more than I would like to admit in public.(Got to keep an eye out for the men in white coats!)If something it the best, the very best, by a mile, then even in niche markets numbers can climb.Because all my close friends, and their children, know I am into military history I have often been asked if there are any "realistic" war games and the answer has always been "no". Not any more! and there is a hunger for them. Over time numbers will climb and climb. All the best, Kip. Games that in their later versions may have made the grade ,but did not, are the Talonsoft platoon scale games and Close Combat. Sad about Close Combat but I could not careless now I know CM has turned out to be so stunning! ------------------
  5. Hi, Juju posted "ten more days for Europe". Here in the UK I have set my heart on Friday, Monday latest, or I may crack! All the best, Kip. ------------------
  6. Hi, I agree with the others that the Tiger 1 had had its day by 44. In my view it was at its peak in 43 up against T34/76s.By 44 the Soviet 85s and western 76s of vatious types could knock it out without too much trouble. Note the Tiger1 could still kill Shermans and T34s without any difficulty. All the best, Kip. ------------------
  7. Hi, great site, good to see such a quality site from this side of the pond! Having said that I think it is Moon that produces the German site and that looks great too! I see you have sections for scenarios and operations and I look forward to downloading from them. However have you considered having a section just for maps? As I will only be using the same maps once or twice and am very lazy anyway I will not be producing finely tuned scenarios anyone else would be interested in, but I will be producing a lot of maps, I hope. I will also have a great hunger for other peoples maps. I feel there may be demand for a map only section, but I may be wrong. All the best, Kip. ------------------
  8. Hi, for once I don't quite agree with Steve that beach assaults would be pointless. I am more than happy with what is coming in the CD, infact I am still in shock it all sounds so good. However in the perfect world I could imagine putting together a beach assault scenario that would be interesting for both sides. However if Steve claims it would not be worth the time to put such a feature in CM I am more than happy to take his word for it, an Eastern Front version of CM interests me far more. All the best, Kip. ------------------ [This message has been edited by kipanderson (edited 06-15-2000).]
  9. Hi, my vote would go to the Churchill mark8.Not the worlds greatest tankVtank AFV but a great combined arms tank/ infantry support tank. All the best, Kip. ------------------
  10. Hi, I would also be interested to know the shipping time to the UK. If its anything like Amazon.com it will be 7-10 days. All the best, Kip. ------------------
  11. Hi, I agree that there was no one event that was "the" turning point. My view is that the power of the Red Army in the second half of the war was the key factor. Recent books by David Glantz and others show what the casualty ratio was in that period and that the Soviets were of far higher "quality" than they are normally creditted with. Only 14.5% of total German army casualties resulted from the war against the Allies in NW Europe. 74% of their casualties were suffered on the Eastern Front and 2/3 of these in the last half of the war on the Eastern Front. German casualties against the Soviets in the last half of the war were three times higher than those they suffered against the Brits and the US over the same period. All the best, Kip. ------------------
  12. Hi, the top man in casualty ratio number crunching is Trevor Dupuy. Given the following assumptions, 1)size of force ratio, attacked to defender of 2.4/1. 2)Defender is in hasty defence posture/mode. 3)The attacking and defending force are of the exact same quality. Given the above assumptions the casualty ratio one would expect is 1.44/1, attacker to defender. All the best, Kip. I do not know what the "percentage" casualty rate would be, have not done those equations yet.
  13. Hi, I saw that there was a reference to what I would call the "casualty ratio" on the Eastern Front. I was planning a far longer post on this subject, and the subject of combat effectiveness on the Eastern Front, in a few weeks time but here are some of the basic figures resulting from recent research by people like David Glantz and John Erickson. Casualty ratio Soviets to Germans. Up to 1 July 1943 6.08/1 From 1 July 1943 to 1 April 1945 1.65/1 (i.e. not including the round up in April May 1945) If you run the attrition equations regarding daily loss rates produced by Trevor Dupuy you find the German combat effectiveness against the Soviets, in the second half of the war, was very slightly less than against the British and Americans. The Soviets per 1000 man combat team were very slightly more effective than the Western allies. But the Western allies, the Soviets and the Germans were all very similar by the autumn of 1943 to the end of the war. More on this subject later when work on MC2 is well on the way. All the best, Kip. ------------------
  14. Hi, my vote goes to the way Steve and Charles do things at present. GTP. All the best. Kip. ------------------
  15. Hi, I know nothing about live internet game play, but will there be a minimum connection speed. My concern is centred on the fact that I have to make do with a rural, British telephone line. I normally connect at between 28000bps and 33000bps, will that be enough? Thanks for your help, all the best, Kip. ------------------
