  1. Yup, that pretty much is what I would expect to happen in real life based on what I just wrote: foxholes don't do anything for an AT Gun, and "woods" is relative to your position within the forest and behind what trees. If you're on the edge of "woods", you're just barely less visible than in the open after firing. Martin
  2. You are thinking in terms of abstracted hex-based games. CMBN doesn't work like this, generally. There are a few abstractions, but they are a necessary evil. In general, you should assume that the game is pretty WYSIWYG. So, foxholes are foxholes. For soldiers. Not for AT Guns. The same applies to being "in woods". You seem to be thinking of hexes where a unit gets a bonus from the terrain it's in. In CMBN, what counts more is what is BETWEEN the units. In other words, make sure to place your ATGun deep inside the woods, not right on the edge. Yes. When you setup an AT Gun during the Setup phase and do not move it, it is assumed to be emplaced / camouflaged accordingly. Martin
  3. I may be wrong but I don't think that foxholes provide much cover for an AT gun. As for "woods"... Keep in mind that placing an AT gun at the edge of a wooded area won't magically hide it. Try placing it deeper inside and behind more trees. An AT gun may be well camouflaged before it fires, but after it fires, it is widely visible to anyone on the battlefield due to the smoke signature. What type of ammo is fired matters, too. IG guns are probably even worse than ATG in that respect. Keyholing is definitely the best thing you can do to avoid a lethal response from the enemy. Once spotted ATGs are fairly big, fairly immobile targets. Other than keyholing, teaming up is something else you can do. Make sure that more than one ATG engages a target simultaneously. The base idea behind both of these is that you make sure to kill anyone that can spot you once you open fire Tank crews actively scan their flanks with whatever optics they have. This includes optics with magnification, so 500m isn't that far. If they would spot your ATG BEFORE the first shot, then that would be a problem, but afterwards not so much anymore. The one hit kill was use pure luck most likely. Martin
  4. you could enter "na" for "not applicable", for example.
  5. You do not have to register in order to buy. During the first purchase an account is created automatically for you, using your email address as Username (25 characters max), and a random password. Although, you don't really need those anyway, since you are logged in automatically as well, and can change your account details right away. Anyway, the previous poster's problem is related to not entering any zip code, as explained in the Knowledgebase article I linked to.
  6. Check out this entry in our Knowledgebase: http://www.battlefront.com/helpdesk/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=36&nav=0,1
  7. What country are you entering as the shipping address?
  8. Go to www.battlefront.com/helpdesk and click on "Submit Ticket", please. Make sure to include a more detailed error description than "doesn't run", e.g. are you getting any error messages, what is your license key etc.
  9. The instructions in the licensing window consist of a few very simple steps. You generate a license request, copy it over to license.net, get a response, and copy that back into your game. You do not need to be a server expert to do this. You can also find detailed instructions for manual licensing under the Knowledgebase/"eLicense" category of our www.battlefront.com/helpdesk.
  10. yolo911, I don't know why you have a problem with one game and not the other to be honest. The offline procedure is not as simple as the one-click online procedure, but it's not complicated. Looks like your PC has more issues, if it can't even save the license file. You can work around that step by selecting the entire license request step manually (Ctrl-A). Martin
  11. Error -12 has nothing to do with the licensing itself, or you unlicensing. It's a communication error on your PC with the licensing server. Usually due to a proxy or firewall interfering with the encrypted 2-way communication that is needed. If you don't know how to adjust your Proxy (click the "Proxy..." button in the licensing window), then you can use the Manual Licensing procedure as well as a workaround (click that button, then follow the on-screen instructions). Martin
  12. Make sure you set the correct date in the editor.
  13. igbee, I didn't mean to "call attention". They had the hacking on their front page news and I in fact only noticed it there after reading the suggestion here on our forum. So I commented on it for simply the reason that hacking is one of the major concerns we have in establishing and running a multiplayer service. Another one, and just as important, is that we do not have actual MULTIplayer games. Most of our games offer H2H play, i.e. with two opponents. Finding one human opponent to play is much easier than finding dozens. The one game that does offer outstanding multiplayer (Empires of Steel) does have a built-in multiplayer service (and a lot more, in fact). As you say, small companies need to be smart about how they use resources. Given even just the two points I mentioned above, our resource allocation at the moment is where we think it's most useful, for both us as a company, and for the players. We focus on the games, and once we get to co-op for the CM series (at the latest), integrated multiplayer options will certainly be on top of the priority list. For the moment, the options are sufficient, though. There are online clubs and ladders, this forum (did you know about the Buddy List? Check your UserCP) and other options out there. Martin
  14. Yep, sounds like classic Mod trouble. Martin
  15. The text is taken from the strings.txt file from the latest .brz file in your Data folder. If you are getting problems with text, then you still have mods installed. Another problem that may occur is if you install an incorrect patch (effectively downgrading your game).
  16. A couple of things to ponder: To limit damage from a barrage, dispersion patterns are as important as spacing. All the spacing won't help if you have your guys in a nice line and the enemy FO can call a line right along the hedge you have all your guys behind. You have to stagger your squads and teams in a W at the least, and do not always use the most obvious cover on the map there is (because it's also the most obvious place to rain arty down on).
  17. I may be wrong, but from what I recall, a crater may appear after multiple hits to the same location, even with a light mortar (or handgrenades for that matter).
  18. The new updated v1.10 demo is out just now. This is just a demo. The v1.10 patch is next, but I don't think it'll be today. The v1.10 will be only for people who have CM:BN (v1.00 or v1.01) and do NOT have Commonwealth. If you have Commonwealth, you don't need this patch (in fact, you should NOT install it because it'll erase your module). It will update the base game engine to v1.10, same as what is included in the Commonwealth module already(i.e. the module includes Commonwealth and already has the base gam eengine updated to v1.10). Martin
  19. The end result is the same, but the simple truth is that we can't do everything at once. So naturally the first focus is on the getting the paying stuff (i.e. module) out, and THEN work on the (free) patch. So it's not a deliberate marketing tactic, but then again, the end result does work out to about the same Truth be told, we'd have had the patch out some time ago already, but there were a couple of Mac activation issues as well as a last minute bug found in the demo that delayed things somewhat. The v1.10 is coming out today, and the patch will follow very shortly thereafter.
  20. Mesquite55, as I mentioned to you in the helpdesk, you need to tone down your language a LOT. You are dealing with real people here, and your ticket in the helpdesk is even more hard to read than your posts here between all the swearing. Swearing will, in fact, ban you from access to our helpdesk altogether. Now, I can only hardly make out what you are trying to say, but if you stop cursing and take a moment to read instructions, such as the Knowledgebase article about installing CMSF modules (the order in which you do it counts!), then you will most likely find the solution to your problem. If not, submit a ticket without cursing, and we'll help you out. Martin
  21. I assume that this is not meant as a serious post, rather as a hidden attempt to troll (hence the infraction). Here are my responses (equally un-serious) to the questions raised: Yes, it does. We are going to continue free unpaid support for all versions of Windows, including 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14. After that, Microsoft is going to change the numbering of new Windows OS to Roman literals, and we will continue support for Windows XV, XVI, XVII and XVIII. You are referring to the $1 upgrade for the now defunct becuase unsupported Paradox retail version of CMSF, I assume? That $1 upgrade changes your version of the game to the native Battlefront version, allowing you to patch your game to the latest release despite the lack of Paradox support. This is a clever marketing ploy of ours to suck you dry of money, and we have been trying to build a new Battlefront castle for our employees out of 1 dollar bills out of this. We're almost there!!! Yes, lots. None that makes Combat Mission Battle for Normandy though. Martin
  22. Besides the developers, the main helpdesk guys right now are Ian (Schrullenhaft on the forum), Phil, and myself. I'm usually the one people yell at, Ian is a walking support database, and Phil is the young pup in the litter.
  23. The price for the Mac edition is a special promo price to promote the Mac as gaming platform for our products. We expect to expand that quite a bit, so a good entry price is a good idea. Having said that: we did plan to discount the PC games all along. And in fact, we've just done that! The entire CMSF PC family has been discounted HEAVILY today. Old and new prices below. CMSF base game - old: $35 - new: $15 Modules - old: $25 - new: $20 CMSF+Marines bundle - old: $35 - new: $25 3 Modules bundle - old: $50 - new $40 The prices are effective immediately. So this means that you can get the corresponding PC package for $55 now. www.battlefront.com/store Martin
