    The patch?

Brave Rinaldi, Miller and others have long battled against those who think the lack of communication and fixes is acceptable! Fortunately many others have come to their aid as more forum posters grow restless after months and months of nothing. I didn't put anyone specific for the orcs but they represent the people who think the current situation is reasonable (of course they can believe what they wish but in this video they're shown to be wrong) and in general represent steve's lack of communication and fixes.

Perhaps YOU don't even exist. I don't bloody care. I most certainly don't like your malicious, paranoid comments. I just want to enjoy these great games, get some decent information from time to time from my favorite gaming company and be able to look forward to coming releases.

Um... no. CMx1 was Pong compared to vastly superior CMx2 game engine. Much of what you ascribe to CMx1 was your interpretation of highly abstracted functions that were limited in the extreme. Fond memories of CMx1 reminds me of people idealizing their first high school girlfriend from 20 years ago and lamenting how they've never been able to meet another woman who matched her.

    The patch?

Fair enough, but I didn't call anyone stupid. I did say that some of the things being said were stupid. You could try and argue that is semantics, but it is also factually correct. For example that BF would be charging us for the patch to correct 4.0. They don't charge for patches- we all know that so yeah that is stupid. It is one of those snide accusations that come in a post that are really just another opportunity to trash BF because face it, some posters just really like to. They have a history to it so many of us who are active here can almost tell you in advance what they will post and how they will post it and why they will likely end up getting another timeout eventually. Just as there are some that folks will call fanboi's, there are also the "anti-fanbois" that just like digging at BF. They don't need to be factually correct, they just like slinging accusations. And the suggestion about growing up was in response to the stupid - yes stupid - little comment about maybe if they had good beta testers. That may have been intended as an insult to me, but it sideswipes every other beta tester most of whom ARE far better than me and we all missed the 4.0 issue. I see how much effort those folks put in. So yeah I am gonna call that poster immature. I'd love to have said quite a bit more, but as you were correct to point out, I was already feeding a bad feedback loop. I get telling me that I should heed my own advice to not sound like a horse's ass. And you are correct I did miss that comment from Steve was earlier this year. Fair enough. But when a beta tester says, "It doesn't look like anything to me" it isn't because I am a host on Westworld (ha I have been waiting to toss that line in somewhere!), but because maybe I am busy enough as a tester that it doesn't seem to have had any impact on what I am having to do. I've been a beta tester since CMFI so that has to count for at least a little right? What you proved is that BF is working on something and frankly I know nothing more than anyone else here on that. That doesn't prove anything regarding impact on workflow. I on the other hand have first hand experience on workflow and I am busy. Probably busier than I'd like to be, but I want 4.0 and the additional material out just as much as anyone- especially CMSF2. No one is sitting around farting in the tub, at least not to my knowledge.

    The patch?

lmfao... I could've sworn someone a few pages back here was saying something about tabling evidence but being ignored. Starting to empathize. This thread should read "the blind lead the blind." We already have a panic feature; when men panic they will break. The "its not a bug, its a feature" rhetoric has to die. Trained soldiers somewhat in control of their wits do not (a) break under artillery fire when in some semblance of fire and (b) break and run in the face of a tank attack. When they do that, it's called panic. In fact the term "tank fright" was literally coined to capture the type of hysteric irrationality that would be required to do so.

Whatever it is you woke up and started smoking this morning is some really good stuff, but I'd suggest laying off it. You guys have a way of developing conspiracies that is pretty interesting, but so far off base that it stops being funny ands just becomes sad. NZ project holding them up... pretty funny. Not sure what the basis was for that conclusion considering that article linked to is over a year old. As far as any of us knows they just went out and bought freakin copies of CMBS. But then that wouldn't fit into the conspiracy theory. Facts are such a pain in the arse. As to understanding how to run a business. Considering that they have been at it over 20 years and are still going strong it seems that most of you who think you know how to run one and have decided what the hallmarks of success are... are ...well how do I put this... WRONG. Not even just wrong, like totally out there in the ether stupid wrong. Like so wrong that you look like that Midvale school for the gifted Far Side comic. By the way I think the NZ gov't held up the contract because of 4.0 and decided it was un-playble. No not really, but it was funny to think so. Pull.

This T72 tank crew scored 30 victories in one battle: (all pix have trees removed) In case you can't read it: 66 enemy casualties, 26 BMP 2 IFVs, 2 BM OPLOT MBTs, 1 AA vehicle and 1 command vehicle. Basically this T72 won the battle on its own. Here's the tank (in a group of trees) on the left, with the things he's killed out in front. I've already given the crew a virtual bottle of vodka. :-)

No. Because the Oplots are bugged and have consistently had bug issues since the game was released. No player in his right mind takes Oplots into a PBEM. Russia isnt at a disadvamtage. True they dont get to use some IRL advantages they have but neither does the US. Russia does get T90AMs which are not in service nor will they be. They get APS which is proliferated way more than I think should be, though I dont think the US should have it AT ALL and I wont pbem with APS in it. I just think T90As should be mor erare and pricier and AMs triple.. Russians get more of an advantage than IMO they would real life with CAS. US shorads suck and the game doesnt simulate the bigger picture where Russian CAS besides the first few days or week would probably be sparse except for alpha strike type support for key areas. I think itd be more fair if you could set an air superiority meter either way. that way you could simulate the us doctrine of relyong on the usaf to keep enemy aircraft away, or make it a situation where it stays as is. as of now it actually kinda favors russians air power wise... just because said airpower wouldnt be there in a lot of the situations it is in, or wouldnt be able to loiter as long, and finally because all you can do on map is use a stinger. Also IRL the USAF has a major advantage of being able to drop accurate ordinance from altitides shorads cant hit. Yes yes I know all abput Russias other excellent SAMS. Im just saying the game also forces a lot of US fixed wing to take fire from units theyd be flying too high to hit back at. I could go on and on but.. So do I truly feel Russia got the short end? No. I feel if anything BFC was generous.I pretty much played exclysively as Russia in PBEMs for most of my time in BS and the Russians competently handled can and will defeat the US. Even on bad days they will cause casualties and are not push overs. True the US forces in game are better but this is about what Id expect in real life, you certainly get more troops for the same amt of points for the Russians The Ukrainians first off should have javelins.Im dead certain we.d give them to them in the game scenario. Also less than lethal aid - NVGs and radios etc I also think should be buffed to reflect US support. I think the Oplot should be fixed but made insanely costly and rare and tbh Id prefer if they were replaced with T80s. Though ISTR reading recently Ukraine sold off almost all of theirs - not sure. I feel otherwisr the Ukrainians are modelled about right, I iust think their bugs have an outsize on their gamrplay

Also Id like to add BFC has an EXCELLENT track record of support and discussion with the community. If its anyones fault they dont divulge more bones its OURS. Dont believe me? Look at the absolute whining and crap that happemed when they released ALPHA FB screen shots. They were working hard on a product and got sh*t all over for tossing us a bone. Accussed of being swindlers etc. Real life happens, IT IS THE SAME CODERS WHOEVER SAID THAT ABSOLUTELY HAS THEIR HEAD UP THEIR ASS, and who knows if someone fell ill, had a family crisis etc. We also all dont know anything about how simple or not simple things are. Also in my experience when people start really bitching and it reaches its zenith because BFC is radio silent we suddenly get hit with a few releases pretty soon after. Then all the same people suddenly cant stop gushing to everyone about the great game, or they conveniently forhet their boycotts, tin foil hat conspiracies, etc and never acknowledge they were wrong or apologize - no suddenly you just see posts about their in game experiences meaning they went ahead and bought the game. Im sorry but the level of inanity and rudeness has gotten to a new level this last year or two and it just isnt right. if yiu dont like CM or BFC go fu*k off and play something else. no one is making you stay and post here. FFS at least BFC isnt doing microtransactions, or worse doing microtransactions and becausw theyre a US company making every US unit from BS to FI. OP as FU*K (looking at you wargaming, WoT, WoWs cept theyre from Russia.. soo) Finally pointing out repeatedly they have a deal with the NZ military is bad how? Any other war game company would see that as an utter honor especially considering this is a FOREIGN military too! BFC worked with the US Army before Shock Force and noone was claiming the developers now worked at DARPA and *****y coder replacements have come in under disguise to keep us poised and waiting for updates thatll never happen, spending their time abd money just trolling us. I mean obviously IT MUST BE THAT because BFC doesnt answer EVERY SINGLE QUESTION I POST. (btw they havent been mia either, I saw a post by Steve this am. However out of respect for one of my friends the thread is about Im not going to name it in the hopes ypu dont bring your dumbass **** there)

We completely agree. But I think those games are more like movies, in the sense that they are never meant to be something you keep playing. They offer a very cinematic, scripted experience, and once that's over, you move on to the next blockbuster game/summer movie. Combat Mission is one of the last 'true games' that are actually games, in the sense that it's something you have to focus on, learn, and get good at. That's why we're still here after ten years of playing fundamentally the same game, and still having fun (or cursing in frustration, be as it may..) But the moment CM gets obsolete because there's a better CM out, I'll be the first to buy the new version. Until then, I'm not much in a hurry to collect them all.

Shh... or the lizard people at the center of the Earth will use nano-machines to make you disappear! I'm no business expert. Yet, staying in business for circa 20 years does sound like it requires some ability. As a customer, I prefer this business model to the mainstream video game industry. Can you imagine BFC making CM:FB online only? Pre-orders units? Making CM console exclusive? Micro-transactions? Recently, I read an article about PAID SAVE SLOTS. All the while, they feed their customers absolute rubbish promises. Showing false videos and promising features that never materialize. I think many of us take BFC's honesty for granted. They can tell us what we want to hear and show us fake screenshots, like Ubisoft or others. What about support? The industry is infamous from abandon-ware. Most of the current big budget shooters become obsolete as soon as the next one comes out, which happens almost yearly. An ironic example of that is SW: Battlefront. CM-BN has been around since 2011, it got a major patch half a year ago.

i cant help myself. my god dude how long you been around here? 3 years? Id say BFC coming from a 2 man operation in the late 90s to now is the opposite of not knowing how to run a business. They never sold out at all. The same designers have been here since CMBO. I remember because Ive been on these boards since fall 99 and its the same team. smh.

I'm not expert on this, but how much time it takes to train solder in " kill machine " in this modern era? I don't believe in WWII there was plenty of time for training and lot of soldiers weren't born killers. (like today.. ;)). p.s. I can tell you for Yugoslav partisans there was almost no training, you were happy if you had a gun.... and there were a headless chickens moments..

Thought I posted about this, but how about a Gallipoli diorama with 5000 54 mm figures in it( done by figure painters all over NZ), a construction site requiring hardhats, WETA, Sir Peter Jackson and more? First part is a photo series, not a still. Battle of Chunuk Bair. Second lInk is to an article on the project and has lots of good pics. Would've loved to have been involved with this. By the way, those are solid foam blocks carved out via a CNC laser profiler. Evidently, it was all one big carving, but the block had to be cut into smaller pieces to fit the museum's freight elevator, then reassembled on site, with all the joins concealed. Normal scene building techniques would've been to do the primary structure in light wood and chicken wire, requiring a completely different and considerably more awkward and expensive approach to actually getting the troops positioned. https://www.facebook.com/Love.Scale.Models/photos/pcb.1799190337043750/1799189723710478/?type=3 http://anzacdiorama.blogspot.cl/2015/05/first-pics-of-massive-gallipoli-diorama.html Regards, John Kettler

What will the next CM be?

don't know, but did anyone see the news on the Ft Bragg Memorial day parade? Awesome. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/05/27/us/politics/military-parade-trump-army-82nd.html?hp&action=click&pgtype=Homepage&clickSource=story-heading&module=second-column-region&region=top-news&WT.nav=top-news Too much politics about Trump's parade in this but the punchline at the end is really cool. Then came a voice over the loudspeakers: “Ladies and gentlemen, if you look to your front, you should now see the division, led by Maj. Gen. Erik Kurilla and Chief Sgt. Maj. Michael Ferrusi, crossing Sicily Drop Zone, advancing through the smoke headed toward the reviewing stand.” And sure enough, there they were, coming across the field and emerging from the mist dramatically. Some 15,000 American troops, the 82nd Airborne Division, marched in lock step behind their commanding general, who had just jumped out of a plane with a titanium femur. Now that is a freakin parade!

I'll have to disagree, infantry become absolutely useless once they start taking indirect fire. Its not hard to give us an update on the progress of the patch, even a simple "its taking longer than expected to fix" would be fine

    The patch?

Decent arguments on both sides here. That said... yeah, it's pretty disappointing that a fix couldn't have come our way by now. It's true that Steve didn't publicly acknowledge the AI problem until 5 or 6 months ago (IIRC), but that doesn't mean it wasn't known about well before then. Several users noted and a few mentioned it right here on these forums long before that. And let's not forget that BFC has admitted that they knew of the issue at 4.0's release -- apparently it was pointed out by a few beta testers -- but the company didn't consider it game-breaking enough to hold the product back. I happen to disagree -- it absolutely is game-breaking, to me -- so I have several scenarios on-hold at the moment. It's just not challenging to attack anymore. But maybe we should also remember that there are other issues that need to be (re)fixed in this patch, too. Like the one where a few soldiers will not move even while their unit is ordered all around the battlefield. That can have some pretty devastating consequences. Is it tied to the way infantry is now more spread out when moving... or how they use corners... or something else altogether? Who knows? Well, I think the point is, after EIGHTEEN MONTHS(!!), BFC does (or should) know by now. If they need more beta-testers to check out any incremental changes, fine, I'd say it's well past the time to just go ahead and enlist a few more. Customers are obviously getting pretty upset with this delay, and -- as much as I like this product, and respect what Steve, et al., are doing -- it's becoming really difficult to say that all these obviously annoyed customers are being unreasonable.

This is rich coming from someone who just handwaves away all criticisms on the basis that "they must know what they are doing." Again, you have literally no evidence to back up your own assertions, yet pull out the "get more evidence card." At this point we'll likely see the major effects of climate change before we actually get the 4.0 patch or any substantial content. But personally I look forward to the forum update: "Hey it's Steve here reporting from the flooded ruins of Augusta Maine, 4.0 fix will be coming soon, in the meantime here are 2 random Rome to Victory Screenshots, give us money." But then we get to my favourite part Smart move to run away, come at me with something a bit better next time or don't come at all.

    The patch?

Small businesses do "limp along" for 20 years. Existing for some time doesn't mean they are prosperous just that they aren't bankrupt failures. The theory comes from nothing being done for months and that the thing they were working on was the NZ game. Something is holding BF up. Yeah there's not really any hard evidence but it sounds more likely by each day of no communication or releases.

    The patch?

This is a bad argument. They keep all relevant information (sales figures, cash flow, etc.) secret ostensibly to "protect it from competition." Just pointing to longevity is ridiculous, for all you know they could have been limping along for 20 years, it's literally impossible to know how successful they are. I'll tell you what's not a sign of a good company, releasing an update with a game breaking bug (I consider it game breaking because it effectively makes the single player unplayable, unless you enjoy effortlessly gunning down fleeing AI troops) and charge $10 for it. Then going over a year and a half without any sign of a fix on the way. Bonus points for the fact that the update to fix 4.0 will also likely require you to pay for it because BFC loves its customers so much that they nickle and dime them for basic bug fixes. But hey, I gotta give some credit to BFC, they've clearly mastered the art of building up a dedicated fanbase. Paying customers are demanding some action to fix their game, and we got @IanL throwing out terms like snowflakes, because screw them for wanting to be able to play their $60 game without using janky workarounds.

    The patch?

I assure you I am no entitled snowflake and I think that is an easy defense of their lack of communication. I understand the whole entitlement thing is real now a days but I cant see in any way how this is that. Steve communicated that this is a problem back in Jan.? Indicating that things were looking good or something to that effect? And we are entitled snowflakes 6 months later because we have issues with the total lack of communication since? That is why I hesitated even making my original post because it doesn't seem to take long for the insults to come when one questions BF here. I do not expect anyone to hold my hand nor do I feel entitled to anything other than decent customer service for a product that I have shelled out quite a bit of my hard earned money for. And again my comments are just about some simple communication about what is going on. The lack of that simple little piece of customer service shows a disrespect for the community and customer base that has kept them in business all these years. Now I am sorry I was trying to be very respectful in my comments and concerns and if I get banned now then I guess so be it but I didn't take us down this road.

    The patch?

Oh sure I get that and I am not really talking so much about release of the patch but just some communication to the community who has supported them through thick and thin. That is what really bothers me. I love these game more than any other game I have ever owned and always had big love for these devs but just to put it into perspective. They released a for money engine upgrade that broke the AI. Ok that happens, its game development. Then they say something about it being almost ready or looking good almost 6 months ago and since then not a word. Not a "hey guys we are working on it ran into some issues but we are working on it." Just a little communication goes a long way. Unless I totally missed some communication. It really makes ya wonder if they just cant fix it and they don't want to say it.

    The patch?

Has there been any word at all from BF on the patch? I have supported and bought everything these guys have ever put out and now they just decide to go complete radio silence on fixing something they broke? I hate to sound so negative but dang its hard not to feel like they really just don't care. I have to hope that is not the case but it would be nice for them to at least let us know whats going on. This has always been a pretty loyal fan base but I don't know if it makes good business sense to take that for granted. Sorry for the rant but with the 4.0 issue I really don't even want to play at the moment and its been that way for quite a while now and should have been addressed by now. Unacceptable.
